The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for most of the metro area until 8 p.m.

The advisory covers central Leavenworth County, Wyandotte County, Johnson County, Jackson County, Clay County, southeastern Platte County and northwestern Cass County.

The weather service said Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy rain across the area with the highest amounts in Johnson County. New Century Airport had recorded 2.64 inches by 1:30 p.m.

“This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area across the Kansas City metro area causing ponding of water on roadways and hydroplaning,” the weather service said.
