Two people die when car strikes tree

A driver and a passenger died early Saturday when their vehicle slammed into a tree, Kansas City police said.

Names, ages and genders of the victims have not been released.

The accident occurred about 4 a.m. at Gregory Boulevard and Oldham Road.

Police Chief Darryl Forté tweeted that speed was a factor.
