Off-duty wreck leaves Kansas City police officer in critical condition

Members of the Kansas City Police Department members are pulling for a colleague who suffered life-threatening injuries in an off-duty motorcycle accident.

The officer, whose name has not been released, wrecked while riding his personal motorcycle about 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Three Trails Crossing area. He remained in critical condition Friday evening, police said.

He was traveling from eastbound Interstate 435 to the northbound split to Bruce Watkins Drive when his motorcycle left the highway, hit a sign and pole and overturned, police said. The officer was thrown from the motorcycle, which landed in a culvert.

Kansas City Fire Chief Paul Berardi visited the hospital and tweeted Thursday night about a strong police presence supporting the injured officer’s family.
