App aims to deter drunk driving
If you’ve had too much to drink this holiday season, there’s an app for that.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released SaferRide mobile app as part of its annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” holiday crackdown on drunk driving.
The app’s makers aim to help keep drunk drivers off the road by allowing tipsy users to call a taxi or a preselected friend. The app also helps people pinpoint their location so they can be picked up.
In the Kansas City area, the app pulls up a list of taxi services including 10/10 Taxi, Yellow Cab, Atlas Cab Co. Inc., Crown Cab, KC 24/7 Transportation, Kansas City Airport Taxi, Allstar Cab Co., KC Taxi Cab, Pink Ride Taxi, Checker Cab, A+ Transportation, Northland Taxi, Community Transportation, Rainbow Cab Co., Abe’s Transportation, Overland Park Taxi & Limo, HD Express, and Ben’s Transportation Service.
The app is available for free on Android devices on Google Play and on Apple devices on the iTunes store.
