Mexican consulate, U.S. attorneys agree to protect Mexican nationals victimized by crime

The Consulate of Mexico in Kansas City and the U.S. attorneys for Kansas and western Missouri have signed an agreement to protect the rights of Mexican nationals victimized by crime regardless of their immigration status.

The consulate and the U.S. attorney offices signed the memorandum Wednesday at the consulate at 1617 Baltimore Ave. In it, they agreed to collaborate to make sure that crime victims’ rights are protected under the law.

The hope is that the agreement will help build a relationship between federal authorities and the Mexican community in Kansas and western Missouri.
