Busy weekend, week ahead at Kansas City airport

Kansas City International Airport is a busy place this weekend.

Airport officials say they expect more than 580,000 passengers to use KCI over the holidays, including an estimated 35,000 passengers who used the facility Dec. 19 — the busiest day of the season.

Nationally, more than 45 million people are expected to fly somewhere over the holiday week.

KCI officials are asking passengers to prepare for the crush by arriving 90 minutes for departure.

Wrapped gifts are permitted as carry-on items, but some may be unwrapped if an alarm sounds. Small snow globes are allowed in carry-on luggage when packed in a plastic bag.

Pies, cakes and other food items are OK but may also require further inspection.

Officials recommend checking a website — flykci.com — for updated arrival and departure information.

Parking at the curb is not permitted.
