Independence man killed in tire blowout accident

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the man who was killed Saturday in a rollover accident caused by a tire blowout as 47-year-old Bradley Cox of Independence.

Eleven other people, including several children, were hurt in the incident that happened about 3:25 p.m. on U.S. 69 in Miami County.

The 2001 Ford van was southbound when the right rear tire blew, causing Cox to lose control of the vehicle. It rolled multiple times and came to rest upside down in the northbound lane.

Other occupants of the van included seven children, ages 11 months to 15. Everyone was using a seat belt or other safety restraint. One person, a 26-year-old Independence man, remained at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in serious condition on Sunday afternoon.
