Skywalk memorial project gets boost
The effort to build a memorial to the 1981 skywalks disaster at the Hyatt Regency hotel has received a $50,000 boost and officials hope to break ground in the spring.
Recent gifts include $30,000 from the Lantz Welch Charitable Foundation, an additional $10,000 from the Burns & McDonnell Foundation and $10,000 from American Dish Service of Edwardsville, Kan.
The Skywalk Memorial Foundation has now raised about $433,000 toward its goal of about $546,000. The memorial is planned for Hospital Hill Park across from the hotel that was formerly the Hyatt.
