Young boy drowns in Platte County pond

A 3-year-old Platte County boy died Monday after falling into a pond at his home in the 19000 block of Route H, the Platte County Sheriff’s Department said.

The boy was out of sight for a few minutes when an adult family member stepped inside the house, according to a statement. The child died at a hospital. Officials said the death appeared to be accidental.

The name of the boy was not immediately released.
