Stairwell fire sends smoke into Plaza building

Firefighters spent about 15 minutes Monday morning searching for the source of smoke inside a Country Club Plaza parking garage and office building near 46th Terrace and J.C. Nichols Parkway.

About 7:45 a.m., they announced that they had found the source, and the fire had burned itself out in the bottom of a stairwell. They requested an arson investigator be sent to the scene. Crews then began working to clear smoke from the building.

Firefighters were called shortly before 7:30 a.m. to the five-story building at 4620 J.C. Nichols. They reported smoke in stairwells and on some floors.
