The Star wins award from KC black journalists as scholarship winners are named

A special section in The Kansas City Star commemorating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. has won an award from the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists.

The section, titled “50 Years Later, March Goes On,” won the 2015 News Civil Rights Coverage Award from the association. It was published in January.

The organization also announced several scholarships to students who took part in a two-week journalism program this summer:

▪ Taylor Holmes, a junior at Sumner Academy of Arts and Science, won the KCABJ-Lucile H. Bluford Scholarship.

▪ Chandi Marsh, a senior at Notre Dame de Sion, won the KCABJ-Roy Wilkins Scholarship.

▪ Nia Rhodes, a senior at Lee’s Summit High School, won the KCABJ-Laura R. Hockaday Scholarship.

▪ Jalynn Saulsbury, a sophomore at Blue Springs South High School, won the KCABJ-Nancy Diuguid Scholarship.
