Party continues early into morning at Power & Light District following Royals’ win

This party didn’t want to end.

Hours after the Royals won the World Series, exuberant fans were still celebrating in the Power & Light District, dancing on tables and jumping on concrete sticky with spilled drinks.

They’d already spent more than five hours on their feet in quarters packed so tightly that sitting wasn’t even an option. But on this night, nobody cared.

And even when things weren’t looking so bright in the 8th, they never stopped cheering on their team. Between innings, they rocked the place, pumping their fists and chanting “I believe that we will win!”

Once the confetti fell and bedlam ensued, the after party began in full force. For two hours, the music blared as the exuberant — and often inebriated — fans danced and sang along to songs such as “We are the Champions” and, of course, "Sweet Caroline."

Hundreds also spilled into the streets, with police patrolling the scene in groups of a half-dozen or more.

By 2 a.m., the crowd was nearly dispersed, but not before Royals broadcaster Rex Hudler, smoking a large stogie and wearing a baseball cap bearing the word “Champs,” sprayed revelers with champagne from the P&L stage.
