Wrecks snarl traffic in both directions of I-470 near Raytown Road

Two wrecks created a major mess Friday morning for rush-hour commuters on Interstate 470 east of the Three Trails Crossing.

The first wreck involving two vehicles happened at 7:21 a.m. in the highway’s westbound lanes near Raytown Road. Only one lane of traffic was getting past the wreck, which involved a dump truck on its side.

Another wreck happened at 7:52 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, possible in a back up caused by emergency vehicles being on the interstate for the first wreck. Police closed the interstate at Raytown Road.
