Pedestrian struck, killed in Independence

A 48-year-old man was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing U.S. 40 in Independence on foot.

Police said the incident occurred about 5:45 p.m. at River Boulevard. The man was taken to a hospital where he died.

The case is under investigation. The man’s name was not immediately released.
