At Crown Center, Jiggle Jam delivers family fun

Notice to bald men and other wearers of hats: Should you forget yours when attending the Jiggle Jam Music Fest on Sunday, Wade Jacobs will have one waiting for you.

That is if you don’t mind wearing a brown paper bag, rolled up at the opening and poofed out to resemble a button mushroom.

“They’re just regular grocery bags,” Jacobs said as the first day of the two-day event wound down Saturday at Crown Center. He’d rolled up “hundreds and hundreds and hundreds” for grownups and their kids to color and decorate with stickers and ribbons at the Oddball Kids booth.

Many chose to carry rather than wear them.

Not Luke Myers. He seemingly wore his proudly as he strolled the grounds along with his wife, Lauren, and their four boys, ages 1 to 9.

Or it could have been that his hands were full from carrying everyone else’s hats, as well as the other stuff the Gladstone family accumulated during a long afternoon touring craft tents, jumping on the bouncy inflatables and listening to kid-oriented music.

“It’s a good, wholesome family activity,” Lauren Myers said.

Besides lots of things to keep the little ones busy, Jiggle Jam also features train rides, stage shows and a chance to jam with some of the event’s musicians at JJ’s Garage Band Tent.

This is the seventh annual Jiggle Jam. Last year, more than 30,000 attended. Despite the rain, plenty turned out Saturday, and a good crowd is expected Sunday, event organizers said.

“Pretty much all the activities are under tents,” said Jessica Julich at O’Neill Marketing and Event Management.

The price is $15 at the gate. Kids under 2 get in free. For more information, go to www.kcjigglejam.com/.
