Two Savannah teenagers drown in farm pond

Two teenage boys drowned Saturday in a farm pond just north of Savannah, according to the Andrew County Sheriff’s department.

The bodies of Andre Lance and Tyler Brandt, both 17 and students at Savannah R-3 High School, were found about 10:31 p.m. near a hole in an iced-over pond on the farm, sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities were notified about 7:48 p.m. Saturday that the boys were missing and had failed to return from a visit to the farm on County Road 153. Their vehicle was found parked near the pond, as was a hole in the pond about 40 feet from the bank.

The pond was partially frozen over with about 2 inches of ice, sheriff’s officials said.

A rescue effort that involved the marine division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Savannah Rural Fire District and county sheriff’s officials was launched.

An investigation is ongoing, according to Andrew County Sheriff Bryan Atkins.
