Major traffic switch is set for I-35/I-435 Gateway project in Johnson County
Drivers on Kansas 10 and Interstate 435 in Johnson County may feel like something is out of place Friday.
A major traffic switch will take place at 5 a.m. Friday that will require drivers to pay extra attention or they might miss their exit.
A new collector-distributor road that takes motorists from eastbound K-10 and southbound I-435 to northbound and southbound Interstate 35 will open to traffic.
A new eastbound I-435 ramp to Lackman Road also will open to traffic.
The new configuration means:
▪ Traffic on eastbound K-10 will use an exit ramp that begins west of Renner Boulevard and follow a collector-distributor road to I-35.
▪ Traffic on southbound I-435 will use an exit ramp just south of 95th Street to reach the new exit ramp to Lackman and the collector-distributor road to I-35.
▪ Traffic on eastbound K-10 will use a new exit ramp to Lackman.
To prepare for the switch, the eastbound ramps from I-435 to I-35 will be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. Traffic will be detoured along eastbound I-435 to Quivira Road and then back on westbound I-435 to I-35.
