Rain possible this Memorial Day weekend; severe storms not expected

Those headed out this Memorial Day weekend might want to bring along some rain gear.

There will be a persistent chance for thunderstorms across the Kansas City region through the weekend and into next week, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.

The threat of severe weather, however, is expected to be low. The storms will be scattered and not everyone will see rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The best chance for rain will be Friday night through mid-day Saturday. There’s a 60 percent chance of rain on Saturday.

That drops to 30 percent chance of rain on Sunday and 40 percent chance of rain on Monday.

The rain can be blamed on a stalled frontal boundary across southern Missouri and a cutoff storm system over the southwestern United States that is pumping moisture into the area.

The good news is that temperatures should be mild through the holiday.

Highs are expected to be in the upper 70s to lower 80s through Monday.
