Former columnist refiles suit against The Star

A former Kansas City Star metro columnist has refiled a lawsuit against the newspaper. Steve Penn had dismissed his previous suit in November 2013, a day before it was scheduled for trial.

The original suit, filed in Jackson County in June 2012, alleged that The Star defamed Penn in a July 2011 article that said he had been dismissed after using material that wasn’t his without attribution.

The new action, filed Nov. 7, added an allegation that the newspaper placed him in a “false light” before the public.
