Woman dies in Lee’s Summit crash
An 89-year-old Lee’s Summit woman died Monday when the car she was riding in lurched through a parking lot and grassy area before coming to rest against a tree.
Police identified her as Wilma Bowman.
Her husband, Kenneth Bowman, also 89, was the driver. He was listed in good condition at a hospital.
Police said the couple’s car was in a restaurant parking lot near Interstate 470 and Woods Chapel Road when the car suddenly accelerated. It drove through a grassy area across Woods Chapel before stopping at the tree.
Investigators are trying to determine how the accident occurred.
