Plane returns to KCI after striking birds

A plane from Kansas City to Las Vegas and Sacramento had to return to the airport Wednesday afternoon after striking birds, according to emergency radio traffic.

Southwest flight No. 2857 landed safely. The plane took off at 4:15 p.m. and returned to Kansas City International Airport a few minutes later. Emergency crews responded but were not needed. There was no immediate information about damage to the plane.
