Johnson County man sentenced to prison for witness tampering

A Johnson County man was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for tampering with a witness in a federal drug case that targeted his daughter.

Gary Sparks, 61, of Edgerton tried to get a teen witness to lie, according to federal prosecutors. His daughter, Stacy Ashley, was accused of distributing Oxymorphone to a 20-year-old Garnett, Kan., man who died of an overdose in 2011.

Ashley pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison.
