Woman and child killed in I-35 crash in Johnson County are identified
A woman and child from Wellsville, Kan., died Wednesday night in a single-vehicle crash along Interstate 35 in Johnson County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol identified them as 25-year-old Ashley Nicole Towner and 6-year-old Ilana Dawn Towner.
The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday along the interstate just south of Homestead Lane.
Towner was headed south on I-35 when the 2003 Chevrolet Impala she was driving left the road for an unknown reason. The car traveled into the median and overturned. Both were ejected.
Towner was not wearing a seat belt. Though a booster car seat was in the car, it was not properly secured, according to the Highway Patrol.
