Driver is killed when truck bursts into flames in Northland

A motorist died Saturday night in a pickup truck that burst into flames after an accident in Kansas City, North, police said.

The accident was reported shortly before 9 p.m. near North Oak Trafficway and Northeast 102nd Terrace, north of Missouri 152, police said. A maroon Chevrolet pickup truck pulling out of a grocery store parking lot was T-boned by a speeding BMW, according to Sgt. Deb Randol of the Kansas City Police Department.

The pickup truck burst into flames and the driver was killed, Randol said. The driver had not yet been identified Saturday night.

The explosion apparently occurred when the gas tank of the pickup truck was hit.

Witnesses said the BMW had been traveling north on Oak Trafficway at a “high, high rate of speed,” Randol said. The driver, a 16-year-old male, suffered minor injuries.
