Man struck and killed by train in Grandview

A 43-year-old man died after he was hit by a train in Grandview on Saturday, according to police.

Police were called to the railroad tracks behind a strip mall near 120th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard shortly after 2:30 p.m. A man had been found underneath a train.

The man was declared dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The train belongs to the Kansas City Southern Railroad. Grandview police detectives investigated the incident and the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office will continue to investigate the cause of death.

A woman was in critical condition Saturday night after a traffic wreck on U.S. 169 in Olathe, according to police. The crash was reported shortly after 11 p.m. at U.S. 169 and 159th Street, the Olathe Police Department said in a news release early Sunday morning.
