Bitter wind, low temps blow into Kansas City

A cold system that blew into the Kansas City area late Monday dropped temperatures from the balmy 70s into the 20s, with a light dusting of snow in some areas.

Slick spots caused by the temperature change led to some traffic headaches early Tuesday in Kansas City, with accidents along interstate highways. No fatalities or serious injuries were reported. Interstate 70 in Odessa was briefly closed because of an accident and other backups were reported as rush hour traffic began.

The National Weather Service reported temperatures drops Monday from 72 to 28 in downtown Kansas City, 73 to 32 in Columbia and 74 to 34 in Jefferson City. Low wind chills in the single digits added to the misery.
