A Grandview police officer rescued a kitten trapped in the engine compartment of a car on Saturday morning, according to authorities.

A citizen flagged down a police officer about 9 a.m. Saturday in the 13200 block of 15th Street after noticing the kitten trapped under the hood of the car.

Officer Aaron Carter worked for about a half an hour to free the cat, and was helped by a couple of firemen, police said.

The kitten was taken to Wayside Waifs animal shelter and was not yet available for adoption. The kitten was not injured but “smelled like a mechanic,” shelter staff said.
