Southbound I-29 closed near airport after pavement failure
The southbound lanes of Interstate 29 at Cookingham Drive will be closed to traffic until about 4 a.m. Thursday, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Workers discovered about noon on Wednesday that the pavement had failed, dropping the surface of the highway six inches, said Kerri Lewis, a MoDOT spokeswoman.
I-29 was already reduced to one lane at that location for bridge repairs. MoDOT officials said the closure would not impact travelers headed north to Kansas City International Airport, but travelers headed south would need to follow a detour.
