Standoff in KC ends peacefully

After a standoff lasting about 90 minutes, a wanted man surrendered to Kansas City police Wednesday.

Officers went to the house in the 5400 block of the Paseo just before 10 a.m. to arrest the man on outstanding felony warrants, said Officer Darin Snapp, a department spokesman. The man would not come out of the house, Snapp said. Because the man was known to be violent and believed to be armed, Snapp said, police commanders called an Operation 100, which summoned negotiators and additional police resources to the scene.

The man surrendered without incident just before 11:30 a.m.

Kansas City police had closed the Paseo from 53rd Street to 56th Street because of the standoff. They reopened the road shortly after the man surrendered, police said.
