Tornadoes in Miami and Cass counties were rated EF-1, with maximum winds of 100 mph
Tornadoes early Friday evening that touched down in Miami County in Kansas and in Cass County in Missouri were rated EF-1, the National Weather Service reported Saturday.
That means they had maximum winds of about 100 mph. The path of damage for the Miami County tornado stretched 9.3 miles and was 100 yards wide. The weather service said one minor injury was reported.

The damage path of the Cass County tornado was 5.3 miles and 100 yards wide, the weather service said. No injuries were reported.

The Miami County tornado destroyed several homes in a sparsely populated area. The Cass County tornado broke windows and damaged bleachers and the press box at the Cass Midway High School football field. It also damaged homes in Cass County.
The school credited early warnings for its decision to shelter about 250 people 10 minutes before game kick-off.
The tornado touched down in Miami County about 6:30 p.m. About 7 p.m., a tornado hit near Freeman in Cass County, according to the weather service.
