Warrensburg man dies in collision with dump truck near Lone Jack

A 28-year-old Warrensburg, Mo., man died early Monday when his vehicle smashed into the rear of a dump truck on westbound U.S. 50 east of Lone Jack.

The Missouri Highway Patrol identified the deceased driver as John A. Stewart.

The collision occurred about 5:35 a.m. near Northwest 1801 Road in rural Johnson County, Mo.

Stewart was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger when he overtook and struck the rear of a 1996 Mack dump truck driven by a 52-year-old woman from Bates City, Mo., according to the highway patrol’s preliminary crash report.

After Stewart was removed from his pickup, flames engulfed it. It burned in the right lane of the highway.

The dump truck’s driver suffered minor injuries, and she sought her own treatment.
