Fire causes significant damage to Overland Park home
High wind and unattended embers in an outside chiminea may be responsible for an early Tuesday morning fire that heavily damaged an Overland Park house.
Two adults and five children escaped safely, but one of the family’s dogs died in the blaze, according to the Overland Park Fire Department.
The fire was reported just before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 9300 block of West 158th Street.
Fire officials said the blaze caused significant damage. The exact cause had not been determined.
The fire department reminded people to only use fire pits and chimineas on non-combustible surfaces and to make sure fires are completely extinguished.
