Overland Park intersection is likely to change its stripes

Si Korte thinks traffic would flow better at 124th Street and Antioch Road if Overland Park’s top traffic dogs would do a better job of marking territory.

This is a T-intersection where drivers on 124th approach Antioch from the west. A dotted line separates the two directions of traffic on 124th, but there’s room for eastbound cars to be two abreast before turning left or right.

With no turn lane markings, Korte said, drivers tend to stop in the middle before turning left onto Antioch. This blocks those turning right, “causing delays and tempers.”

Overland Park knew of this situation because someone else had asked about it. The city’s experts looked over the intersection and decided Korte’s suggestion has merit. A staffer is developing the new layout, and the city expects to make the change this summer.
