Many roads were flooded. Police received calls from stranded motorists who ran into trouble with high water on Interstate 70 and Interstate 35 along with other spots around the metro. More than four inches of rain fell on the city in a few hours.
The storms also brought reports of downed trees and power lines.
About 10 p.m., Kansas City Power and Light reported more than 5,400 customers without power across the metro area.
