Kansas man convicted in meth-injection torture slaying

A Sedgwick County jury on Tuesday found Jason. A. Jones guilty of first-degree murder in the meth-injection death of Shawn Lindsey.

The jury will return Wednesday for a second phase of the trial, in which prosecutors are seeking the Hard 50 sentence, where a person has to serve 50 years before becoming eligible for parole.

The jury’s job will be to determine whether aggravating factors against Jones outweigh mitigating factors for him. Once the jury determines that, District Judge Bruce Brown would have final say on the sentence.

Jones is one of multiple defendants in the case.

The jury Tuesday found Jones guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping.

Lindsey’s body was found near K-96 and Hillside on Jan. 16, 2013.

Lindsey was bound and tortured by a group of men at a west Wichita auto shop before he was injected with a lethal dose of meth, authorities have alleged. According to a prosecutor, it was all done because Lindsey owed money to the owner of the shop.
