Delaware Ridge fourth-grader Colin Garner is the Kansas winner in Google logo contest

Delaware Ridge Elementary fourth-grader Colin Garner in the Bonner Springs school district is California bound as one of 50 state winners in Google’s logo contest.

Colin and the other state winners are invited to Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., on May 21, when five finalists and a grand winner will be announced.

The student artists were competing under the theme “If I could invent one thing to make the world a better place …” Contestants redesigned the Google logo that appears on its home page.

Colin’s design, “Peanut Detector,” shows a machine that protects children with peanut allergies.

Missouri’s winner is Lucy Zhu of Marquette High School in Chesterfield, near St. Louis.
