Tax credits sought for KC grocery and Liberty Memorial

Kansas City elected leaders on Thursday endorsed two projects that could compete against each other for state tax credits.

The City Council endorsed a request for $3.5 million for a grocery in the “food desert” of 27th Street and Troost Avenue and a separate request for $2.55 million for a new exhibit space at the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial.

The requests will be considered by the Missouri Development Finance Board. If approved, contributors to the projects would be allowed to deduct 50 percent of their contributions from their state taxes, up to the limit of credits approved.
