Three construction projects will shut down lanes and ramps along I-35 and U.S. 69

Drivers who traverse Interstate 35 on the Kansas side can expect to wrestle with construction at three interchanges, starting with a ramp closure on Friday and more closures into next week.

These projects are not part of the

massive Johnson County Gateway Project

scheduled to begin early next month at the Kansas 10, Interstate 35 and I-435 interchange.

• The northbound ramp from I-35 to I-635 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday for attenuator replacement work. The Kansas Department of Transportation says drivers should use the 18th Street Expressway interchange to exit and then head back southbound on I-35 to access the northbound I-635 ramp.

• A pavement marking project will begin Sunday night on I-35 from 75th Street to 18th Street Expressway and on U.S. 69 from U.S. 56/Shawnee Mission Parkway to 53rd Street in Johnson County. This project includes replacement of all pavement markings, including on the interchange ramps. Crews will work between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Sunday night through Thursday night.

Beginning Monday, two lanes of southbound I-35 will be closed as the crews work. I-35 will be completed first, then U.S. 69.

• On Monday, a pavement replacement project will begin on Kansas 7 over I-35 between the northbound and southbound K-7 and I-35 interchange exit ramps in Johnson County. Work will take place during daylight hours Monday through Friday, with some occasional weekend work.

Beginning Monday morning, northbound and southbound K-7 will be closed between the northbound and southbound I-35 exit ramps through mid-July. A marked detour will be provided.
