Former Missouri lawmaker gets probation for social security fraud

A former Missouri lawmaker from Sugar Creek was sentenced Wednesday to five years of probation for social security fraud.

Raymond E. Salva pleaded guilty last year to illegally receiving Social Security disability payments while serving in the Missouri General Assembly.

The 66-year-old Democrat pleaded guilty last year to illegally taking about $59,000 in benefits during the time he was being paid about $30,000 a year while serving in the legislature.

As part of sentencing Salva had already paid restitution of $58,816, according to court records.
