A 20-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man has been charged in the fatal shooting Monday afternoon near downtown Kansas City, Kan.

Wyandotte County prosecutors said Joshua Diaz is charged with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting death of Joaquin Patricio at 10th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

In a press release announcing the charges Tuesday, prosecutors incorrectly reported that the killing occurred Sunday in the 1000 block of Cheyenne Avenue. That incident was actually a nonfatal shooting in which Diaz is charged with aggravated assault and criminal possession of a firearm, according to prosecutors.

Diaz’s bond is set at $500,000 and he is in custody in Jackson County, awaiting extradition to Wyandotte County.
