Lincoln College Prep is one of eight high-achieving public schools designated as Gold Star Schools by the state of Missouri.
The program, which aligns with with the federal Blue Ribbon Schools program, is designed to identify schools that perform at a high academic level or perform at a high level while serving a significant number of disadvantaged students.
Lincoln, part of the Kansas City Public Schools, was the only Gold Star School in the Kansas City area.
New principal for Buckner ElementaryKaren Hile will take over in late July as principal at Buckner Elementary School, the Fort Osage School District announced.
Hile has been an administrative intern since 2012 at Blue Ridge Elementary School in the Raytown distrct and held the same position for a year at Norfleet Elementary. She earlier taught elementary school in the Raytown and Kansas City districts.
O’Hara excels at Knowledge BowlArchbishop O’Hara High School announces that its Knowledge Bowl team merged victorious at the recent conference meet, with a 4-0 recod in a five-round match with a bye.
The team consisted of seniors Alex Higinbotham and Matthew Gordon, juniors Steven Gordon and Jack Berney, and sophomore Garrett Ryan.
Northeast High celebrates 100 yearsThe Northeast High School Alumni Association will host two events in mid-May to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Kansas City school.
• May 16, 4 to 8 p.m.:Wine and cheese reception for alumni and special guests, Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., Kansas City.

May 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:100 Year Festival, open to alumni, current students, neighborhood residents, businesses and organizations. Activities include student performances, tours of the newly renovated school, games and a sidewalk chalk contest. It will be on the school grounds, 415 Van Brunt Blvd., Kansas City.

Two new principalsin Hickman MillsSuperintendent Dennis Carpenter has named Dawn Smith as principal of the district’s new Freshman Center. She has been a school improvement specialist and an assistant principal for instruction in Georgia.
Carpenter named Adrain Howard as the new principal at Dobbs Elementary. He has been an assistant principal in the Grandview School District and a principal in Kansas City district.
Both start their new jobs July 1.
