GOP will pare its list of convention contenders on Wednesday
Kansas City should find out Wednesday if it’s still in the running for the 2016 Republican National Convention.
The GOP’s nine-member site selection committee is scheduled to meet by telephone to whittle the list of cities it will consider.
Kansas City and seven other cities have made formal presentations to the GOP. The others are Las Vegas, Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.
It isn’t clear how many cities will be dropped from contention. The Republican National Committee is expected to announce the remaining cities in the afternoon.
Kansas City officials working on the city’s bid said Tuesday they were confident about their chances, but had no inside information.
After the list is narrowed, the RNC says it will send staff members to those cities to take a closer look at convention facilities and financing. A second cut is expected in May, with official committee site visits to follow.
A final decision isn’t expected until late summer or early fall.
