Free-agent safety Danieal Manning to visit Chiefs
said he will be visiting the Chiefs
on Thursday after a visit with the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday.
Manning, a nine-year veteran, was released after the Houston Texans signed free-agent safety Chris Clemons last week. He started six games last season and totaled 24 tackles and zero interceptions before suffering a knee injury. He posted a Pro Football Focus grade of negative-2.3 in 338 defensive snaps.
Manning, who turns 32 in August, said
that has a chance to win. The Chiefs and Bengals both went 11-5 and made the playoffs last season.
Manning also has ties to both teams. He played for Bengals defensive-backs coach Vance Joseph during his time with the Texans, and he also played for Chiefs special-teams coach Dave Toub during his time with the Chicago Bears.
Manning, who played for the Bears from 2006 to 2010, spent three-plus years as Toub’s primary kick returner. The Chiefs have a need there, as they recently lost Quintin Demps to the New York Giants in free-agency.
Manning, however, has returned a total of two kicks the last two seasons.
