Arrowhead, Kauffman stadiums in excellent shape, review finds
Arrowhead and Kauffman stadiums are still in excellent condition four to five years after both underwent major renovations, newly released report cards say.
The engineering firm Burns McDonnell performed this first, full review of stadium conditions since the new Arrowhead opened in 2010 and the new K opened in 2009 on behalf of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority.
The authority board, appointed by Missouri’s governor, manages the Truman Sports Complex for Jackson County taxpayers. Voters approved a 3/8th cent sales tax in 2006 to renovate the stadiums, which date to the early 1970s.
The total cost of the project was $625 million, with the teams kicking in $150 million of their own money.
According to lease agreements that run through the end of January 2031, the Royals and Chiefs are required to maintain the stadiums at first-class levels. According to the reports released Tuesday, the teams are doing just that.
“Both stadiums were found to be in exceptional condition with minor physical deficiencies,” the sports complex authority said. “It is apparent that both teams have performed their ordinary cleaning and maintenance obligations consistent with First Class Stadiums.”
