Father is arrested after 6-year-old boy said he was beaten
Kansas City police arrested a 27-year-old man Thursday after his 6-year-old son said his father beat him for getting into trouble at school.
School officials summoned police to Burke Elementary at 11115 Bennington Ave. about 2:45 p.m. Thursday after they suspected the boy had been beaten. The boy told police his father hit him in the arm and leg with a belt at least three times Wednesday after school. He said his dad was yelling the entire time he was swinging the belt at him.
The boy said his father had hit him in the past with wire clothes hangers and extension cords, “whichever one he was closest to,” according to police reports.
Officers noted major bruising and swelling on the boy’s left arm. One bruise covered one of the boy’s triceps muscles, police reports said.
The victim’s grandmother refused to allow police to search her home, where the boy and his father live. Police obtained a search warrant and recovered the belt from the home.
