KC area counties are among the healthiest, unhealthiest in their states, new study shows
Kansas City area counties are among the healthiest in Kansas and Missouri according to new rankings released Wednesday.
Johnson County is the healthiest county in Kansas, according to the annual County Health Rankings.
In Missouri, the honor went to Nodaway County.
Several counties in the Kansas City area also performed well.
Platte County ranked the fourth healthiest county out of 115 counties in Missouri.
Meanwhile Clay County was No. 12 and Cass County was No. 15.
Jackson County, at 75th, ranks in the bottom third of healthiest counties in Missouri.
On the Kansas side, Douglas County rank the eigth healthiest out of the 98 ranked counties in Kansas, followed by Miami County at 24th.
Wyandotte County, ranked 96, finished as one of the least healthiest counties in Kansas.
The study didn’t rank Stanton, Lane, Wallace, Kiowa, Comanche, Greeley or Hodgeman counties in Kansas.
The annual County Health Rankings, released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute measures the overall health of a county, as well as how well they are doing on 29 factors that influence health, including smoking, diet, sexual activity, access to care, income and air and water quality.
When it came rankings by the health factors, Platte County ranked first, while Clay County was seventh, Cass County was 16th and Jackson County was 67th.
In Kansas, Johnson County ranked 1st, Douglas County was sixth, Miami County as 14th and Wyandotte County was last at 98th.
