Man found dead after car is driven into Lake Jacomo was a child porn suspect

A man who was a suspect in a child pornography investigation apparently shot himself in the head as he drove his car at high speed into Lake Jacomo late Tuesday morning.

The vehicle was pulled from the water, and the body was recovered about 2:30 p.m.

Shortly before noon, a witness called authorities after hearing a car accelerate and then seeing it drive into the lake.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office said the man, a 40-year-old Lee’s Summit resident, had an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

A spokeswoman for the Jackson County sheriff’s department said he was being investigated in a child porn case by the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force. With the man’s death, that case is now closed.
