Three-year-old boy is found wandering the streets alone

Kansas City police were looking for the mother or caregiver of a 3-year-old boy found Tuesday morning wandering the streets in the Northeast area.

A construction worker saw the child walking alone near St. John and White avenues just before 11 a.m. The worker called police.

A woman in the neighborhood recognized the boy and said he lived in the 100 block of White, about a half block away. Police could not get anyone at his home to answer the door.

A neighbor upstairs told police he sometimes watched the boy but was not supposed to watch him Tuesday. He thought that the boy’s mother was at work and that a friend was watching the child.

Officers watched the boy for several hours while they continued to look for the mother. The child appeared to be in good condition and was dressed appropriately, police said.

Police later turned the boy over to workers from the Missouri Children’s Division. Police did not release a photo of the child.
