Man is accused of attacking victim, then trying to put him into a car trunk
Jackson County prosecutors this week accused a 30-year-old man of pistol-whipping, punching and kicking another man and then trying to load the bloody victim into a car trunk.
The victim’s sister interrupted the attack about 8:10 p.m. March 15 in the parking lot of her apartment building in the 7500 block of East 85th Terrace.
Police arrested Larry A. Bell II of Kansas City on Monday. Prosecutors charged him with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He remained in jail Tuesday with a $100,000 cash-only bond.
Bell reportedly accused the victim of “setting him up” and blamed him for his car getting stolen, according to police. Bell allegedly hit the 30-year-old victim with a gun and tire iron, then joined two others in punching and kicking him while he was on the ground. Someone also pulled out a chunk of the victim’s hair.
The victim’s sister was looking for the victim when she heard someone in the parking lot say, “Put him in the trunk.” After she yelled for help, the group abandoned its efforts and drove away, leaving the battered victim behind.
He suffered several deep cuts to his face and significant swelling and bruising to his body, according to court records.
