Kansas City man accused of attacking Philadelphia's computer system
Federal authorities in Pennsylvania on Friday charged a Kansas City man with an attack on the city of Philadelphia’s computer system.
Michael Crockett, 29, was charged with attempting to intentionally damage a computer.
Prosecutors alleged that in September 2012 Crockett transmitted “codes and commands” to the computer hosting Philadelphia’s city website in an effort to shut down the website.
The denial of service attack caused a loss of $5,000 to the city, according to prosecutors.
The crime carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
